Ecology The species is found in freshwater stretches of the Pearl river, but it is possible that T. achaetus in fact is a brackish-water species that has extended its range into the freshwater bodies of the lower Pearl River; in Guangzhou the river is influenced by the tidal waves of the South China sea, and both brackish-water polychaetes (Shen & Qi, 1982) and copepods (Qi & Zhao, 1984) have been reported from this reach.
