Taxonomic remark The genus Vemana was thought by Barnard (1964) to be most similar to a hyperiopsid of a vitjazianid and was placed in the Vitjazianidae based on the morphology of Maxilla 1. This placement was questioned by Ledoyer (1986) who showed the similarities to Lysianassids. The analyses of Lowry & Myers (2017) place the genus in a new monotypic family within the Lysianassidira.
