Diagnosis Test elongate ovate or sausage-shaped, 0.6 mm to 2 mm in length, 0.09 mm to 0.5 mm in breadth; wall of two more or less separated semitransparent proteinaceous membranes, outer membrane may be partly separated from the cytoplasm as a sticky coat to which detrital particles adhere to give an uneven surface; single wide aperture; cytoplasm with numerous inclusions, pseudopodial cytoplasm differentiated from that of main body; one to three nuclei; asexual reproduction by multiple fission, sexual reproduction unknown.
