Status Hansson (2001) lists this name as a possible synonym of Strongylocentrotus pallidus (Sars, 1871), while listing another combination of the same specific epithet (Echinus granularis) as a synonym of Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis (Müller, 1776). Here we choose to follow Mortensen (1943: p. 199) to treat granularis Say, 1827 as junior subjective synonym of Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis. [details]
