Description Distribution: Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. Scaleless. No swim bladder. Dorsal fin continuous with anal fins. Eyes rudimentary. Opercular spine weak, if present. No pyloric caeca. Pelvic fin jugular with a single ray; lacking in a few. Total vertebrae 68-86: precaudal 26-48. Neotenic in some features. Mostly found beyond 700 m depth. [details]
