Etymology Not stated. Laeospira is indicative of left-spiralling (sinistral). Laeospira and Paralaeospira already existed as subgenera. The use of Protos, Greek for first, as a prefix may relate to Protolaeospira having 4 thoracic segments in Pixell's subgenus scheme, whereas the other two had fewer at 3 and 3.5 thoracic segments.
