Etymology Abyssarya acus is named with the Latin noun acus, meaning needle. The genus is feminine, but 'acus' is a noun, not an adjective, thus an unchanging noun in apposition. Coincidentally 'acus' is unusual in having a '-us' ending but being of feminine gender in dictionaries. [details]
