Authority A case can be made that strictly Day's (1961) name is infrasubspecific and unavailable from 1961. Blake (1996:132) discussed the Sigvaldadottir & Mackie (1993) attribution of authorship of P. dubia to the later redescription of Maciolek in 1985 rather than to Day 1961. Sigvaldadottir & Mackie applied ICZN article 16 & 45G of the Code 3rd edition (1985) because Day tagged his subspecies as a 'var' variety shortly after the date the current and earlier codes no longer allows this. Blake elected to continue the authorship as Day, although he acknowledged the issue could be debated. The relevant 2nd edition of the ICZN code was not published until November 1961. Day (1961) can reasonably be assumed to have published his name using the 'var' formulation before the rule became known. [G. Read, editor, updated September 2021]. [details]
