Taxonomy The name Dictyonellidae is challenged by Redmond et al. (2013), because they found in a molecular analysis that Bubaris cf. carcisis Vacelet, 1969 ends up in the same clade as Dictyonella and Acanthella. They erroneously concluded that since a Bubaris species is assigned to Dictyonellidae, the name would have to yield to the older name Bubaridae. However, since the type species of Bubaris, B. vermiculata, was not included in the analysis and its molecular relationship is so far unknown, the proposed name change is invalid. We maintain Dictyonellidae as the accepted name for the present assemblage until such time that Bubaris vermiculata is demonstrated to be a member of the family. [details]

Taxonomy The name Dictyonellidae is challenged by Redmond et al. They erroneously concluded that since a Bubaris species is assigned to Dictyonellidae, the name would have to yield to the older name Bubaridae.
