Validity Although the Systema Porifera (Cook & Bergquist, 2002: 1063) referred Collospongia to the synonymy of genus Dysidea, Pronzato & Manconi (2011: 280-282) after examining the type specimen of type species C. dendyi disagreed and proposed to maintain it as a valid genus closely related to but separate from Dysidea.
