Type species De Laubenfels (1936: 26) subsequently made Thorectandra corticatus the type species of Thorectandra. Bergquist (1980: 472) was apparently unaware of this and proceeded to name T.choanoides (Bowerbank, 1872 as Halispongia) the type. The latter designation is invalid. [details]
