Nomenclature Gray in Griffith's (1833) 'The animal kingdom' used the name Terebratula gaudichaudii to refer to the species (that is now N. lenticularis) on plate 4. fig. 2. Blainville (1828) earlier used this name "Terebratula gaudichaudi" to refer to specimens that later turned out to be Magellania venosa 1789, therefore T. gaudichaudi Blainville, 1828 is a synonym of venosa, leaving T. gaudichaudi as described by Gray, 1833 (for a different species) unavailable and in need of a new name, which is why it was given name 'lenticularis' by Deshayes, 1839.
