Taxonomy ? not Colurella colurus after Althaus (1957)[identity unclear]; Colurella cf. colurus (Ehrenberg) after Jersabek (1996)[=Colurella anodonta Carlin]_x000d_
According to Segers (1998), the Black Sea specimen shown in Althaus' (1957) (op. cit.) microphotograph, identified by the author as C. colurus (Ehrenberg), may actually refer to Colurella salina Althaus. Accompanying drawings that were apparently prepared from the same species (specimen?) (Abb.2 a,b) however show that species with a ventral furrow (also mentioned in the text as "Bauchspalt"), the absence of which is diagnostic for C. salina._x000d_
Type species of genus Monura Ehrenberg, 1830 (invalid synonym of genus Colurella Bory de St. Vincent, 1823)._x000d_
Specific name treated as noun in apposition, and as such needs not to agree in gender with genus name. It refers to similarity of Monura colurus Ehrenberg [=Colurella colurus (Ehrenberg)] with species of genus Colurus._x000d_
The taxonomy of the polymorphic species group C. adriatica - colurus - geophila is particularly confused. Transitional forms exist, and cryptic species with narrower geographic ranges and/or ecological tolerances are likely to be discovered. [details]
