Taxonomy Type species of genus Notholca Gosse, 1886._x000d_
not Notholca striata (Müller) after Wierzejski (1893), Weber (1898), von Hofsten (1910), Dieffenbach & Sachse (1912), Olofsson (1918), Jashnov (1922), ?Künne (1926); Anuraea striata (Müller) after Daday (1913)[=N. squamula (Müller)]; ?not N. striata (Müller) after Lie-Pettersen (1905)[=N. liepetterseni Björklund]; not N. striata (Müller) after Wulfert (1942)[=N. salina Focke?]; not N. striata (Müller) after Remane (1929; partim: Fig.81 left variety)[=N. psammarina Buchholz & Rühmann]_x000d_
Separation of the closely related species N. bipalium, N. liepetterseni, and N. striata heavily relies on biometric characters, albeit transitional forms exist. The taxonomy of this species complex is thus particularly confused, and in need of a thorough revision._x000d_
According to Björklund (1972)"The form recorded by him [Lie-Pettersen, 1905] as N. striata is certainly also N. liepetterseni, since the figure shows the typical body shape and dorsal spines. The mobile lateral spines are not shown, however, but they are easy to overlook when held alongside the lorica." [details]
