Taxonomic remark Bassia was first mentioned by Blainville (1830) who quoted Bassia quadrilatera, a manuscript name proposed by Quoy and Gaimard without description or figure. Since the latter do not give this name in their published work (1833) it is necessarily a nomen nudum.
