Biology Type of larval development: unknown [details]Diagnosis Shell of medium size, up to 25 mm, convex, with a marked quadrangular shape, the apex located near the anterior one-third. Posterior margin with two marked angles, one terminating the cardinal line and the other terminating a sharp keel which runs from the umbo to the posteroventral angle. Cardinal line covering almost the entire length of the shell, straight and thin, with tiny and numerous teeth which increase markedly in size and become oblique towards the ends. Umbos very swollen, broadly separated from the cardinal line, the concave area between the umbo and hinge marked with triangular patches of brown material, corresponding to the ligament. External sculpture of radial ribs, which decrease in size from the anterior part to the posterior keel, and are definitely stronger on the surface posterior to the keel. Ventral margin smooth, a notch in the middle giving way to a massive byssus which is fixed to the substrate. External colour brownish, without zig-zag markings unlike other species of the genus [details]
