Synonymy According to Fischer-Piette (1977) Cardium nodosum Montagu, 1803 is a valid name. Then Cardium nodosum Turton, 1822 and Cardium scabrum Philippi, 1844 are regarded junior synonyms. According to Van Aartsen et al. (1984), however, Cardium nodosum Montagu and Cardium nodosum Turton are two separate species and the latter refers to Cardium scabrum Philippi. Anyway, Turton's name can not be used due to homonymy with Cardium nodosum Montagu. Further research is necessary. [details]
