Authority The discussion on the validity of the genus Syndisyrinx has been a matter of debate since Marcus (1949). Since the 1990's there seems to be a consensus that Syndisyrinx is not valid, and all species should be considered species of Syndesmis, a view followed here. As Cannon (1982) considered Syndisyrinx valid, and Jondelius (1996) was the first to explicetely state that all species of Syndisyrinx should be placed in Syndesmis, Jondelius (1996) is considered authority of the new combinations, except for the species described before 1949, for which Marcus (1949) is the new combination reference. For the same reason Marcus (1949) is the first source of synonymy, but other authors suggesting before 1996 that Syndisyrinx should be surpressed are also listed as sources of synonymy.
