Spelling The misspelling of 'brevispina' by Wesenberg-Lund (1958) appears to have been used uncritically later by users of her compilation of taxa. The species name 'brevispinis' was formulated using the ablative plural of 'spina' spine, thus the meaning is short spines (plural). It cannot be changed to the singular 'spina' for supposed gender agreement. Likewise the original genus Amphicteis, the valid combination genus Hypania, and the intermediate genus Parhypania are all feminine. Thus there is no gender change involved when moving taxa between the three genera [details]
