Distribution The occurrence of Asparagopsis taxiformis is questionalble in the Mediterranean according to the latests review by Cormaci et al. (2004). [details]Remark Dasya delilei and Asparagopsis delilei are superfluous names since the epithet taxiformis should
have been retained. The conspecificity of Asparagopsis sanfordiana and A. Taxiformis was proposed by J. Feldmann & G. Feldmann (1943: 81--82). Falkenbergia hillebrandii was shown by Chihara (1961) to be the tetrasporangial stage. In the confusing treatment by Desikachary, V. Krishnamurthy, & M.Balakrishnan (1990: 189--190), Polysiphonia rufolanosa, the sporophyte of Asparagopsis armata, is cited as a synonym of F. Hillebrandii, but A. Armata is not cited as a synonym of A. taxiformis and moreover is separately illustrated (figs. 39, 40). [details]
