Classification Myxicolinae was created by Rioja (1923) solely for Myxicola. As summarized by Fitzhugh (1989) Myxicolinae, containing only Myxicola, are distinguished by the presence of (l) radioles united for most of their length by a palmate membrane; (2) abdominal uncinal tori forming almost complete cinctures; and (3) a transparent, gelatinous tube. Johansson (1927) reassigned Myxicola to his Fabriciinae, but Fauchald (1977 pink book) retained it. Fitzhugh (1989) did not recognize Myxicolinae, and included Myxicola in Sabellinae. Note that Eriographidae Malmgren 1866 (qv) is senior to Myxicolinae Rioja 1923, but is not an available name. Tilic et al (2020) have re-used Myxicolinae as valid, and they further subdivide it, including Myxicola, Amphicorina, and Chone in tribe Myxicolini, and create a new tribe Amphiglenini, based on Amphiglena, indicating in a figure (figure 2) that it also includes Acromegalomma, Eudistylia, and Pseudopotamilla, but this membership is not formally stated.Tilic et al (2020) comment that "The delineation and membership of Sabellinae, Myxicolinae, Myxicolini and Amphiglenini will be further explored in a future study employing high throughput sequencing and dense sampling of sabellid genera, in which we aim to elucidate the fine-scale phylogenetic relationships within sabellids (Tilic et al. in prep.). We will also assess the application of additional names within Sabellinae. Further work is also required to establish morphological support and synapomorphies for the major clades recovered within Sabellidae." [details]
