Synonymy Lamarck's name was given with the additional 'var. bêta', indicating he already acknowledged that the specimen was different from his earlier Spongia bilamellatum. Topsent assigned it to Echinodictyum, and Hooper (1991) reassigned it to the synonymy of E.mesenterinum[details]
