Nomenclature Erected at genus level. Not currently valid as a subgenus or genus (e.g., Sigvaldadottir (1998). Alternate representations of authors at subgenus-level may be seen. WoRMS report these as they are used and may create Prionospio recombinations for them for consistency. However, Sigvaldadottir (1998) concludes the apinnate branchiae of Minuspio "represent a heterogeneous and non-homologous assemblage of characters", and that "Prionospio (M.) cirrifera (with secondarily lost pinnules and increased number of branchiae) is more closely related to species with pinnate branchiae than to other species referred to Minuspio". This is significant as Minuspio cirrifera (originally Prionospio cirrifera) is the type species. [details]
