Spelling In his text the spelling heading by Quatrefages is as 'haemasona', also as hemasone in vernacular French, and haemsona on the pre-existing museum label, so 'sona' instead of 'soma' is apparently intentional. The spelling of 'haemasoma' (blood-red body) would be expected as it is the correct Latin, and consequently the misspelling 'haemasoma' has incorrectly been used by almost all subsequent taxonomists, including Grube (1854, 1870), Fauvel (1902, 1927), Day (1967) and recently by Kara, Molina-Acevedo et al (2021). However, the Hartman catalogue (1959: 321) is an exception and uses the original 'haemasona' spelling. The specimen evidently was in the museum collection, labelled as Eunice haemasona. The published catalogue of Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle annelid types (Solís-Weiss et al, 2004) has the spelling as 'hoemasoma', which has an additional lapsus. As the name has had relatively few usages it seems best to continue Quatrefages' original spelling. Under Code article 32.5 it is not an incorrect original spelling; apparent incorrect Latinizations may be errors when viewed against a Latin dictionary, but as they were deliberately published with that spelling (error) they are not corrected.
