Status Several species of turbellarians were attributed to this genus, all of which now belong to different genera within Dalytyphloplanida, Kalyptorhynchia, Catenulida, Macrostomida and even Annelida: Phaenocora, Mesostoma, Rhynchomesostoma, Typhloplana, Castrella, Gyratrix, Macrostomum, Microstomum, Stenostomum, Catenula, Anotocelis, and Aeolosoma (Annelida).
