Nomenclature The taxon was originally registered as "Amphiporus stimpsoni (Stimpson, 1854)" after Gibson (1995, p. 295, 450), based on Verrill (1874, p. 184). The original spelling of the specific name is "stimpsonii" (Stimpson, 1854), and "stimpsoni" is thus an incorrect subsequent spelling. Stimpson (1854, p. 28) attributed the author of "stimpsonii" to Girard (cf. Recommendation 51E of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, 4th ed.). [Note added by H.
