Taxonomy Amblyosyllis cincinnata was synonymized with A. finmarchica by Pettibone (1963), but was posteriorly considered to be valid by Riser (1982). [details]
Validity It was generally considered that among Amblyosyllis, only A. formosa and A. madeirensis were clearly valid, all the other species (apart from the type species A. rhombeata Grube, 1857) being possible synonyms of the first two, including A. cincinnata. With the description of new taxa, and the redescription of old ones, this vision changed, and today it is accepted that the genus, besides the difficulty in distinguishing taxa, might also include sibling species.
