Taxonomy Hofman & Van Soest (1985) misinterpreted the type specimen of Halichondria aspera Bowerbank, 1875 (Straits of Malacca). Van Soest (2002: 546) discovered the type specimen was a chimaera consisting of two very different species. The bulk of the species was a Tedania, and only a smaller cushion at the bottom of the specimens was a Lissodendoryx.conforming to L. (L.) ternatensis. The supposed Lissodendoryx aspera conforms to Lissodendoryx (Waldoschmittia) schmidti. [details]
