Taxonomy This genus is a Cnidarian (Hydrozoa, genus Solanderia) as the type species, Ceratella fusca Gray, 1868 is pictured as a branching hydroid-like organism and indeed now (Vervoort, 199x) recognized as a Solanderia. The name was maintained as well in Porifera because of Hyatt's (1877) unrecognizable description of a presumed sponge Ceratella labyrinthica. However, recent examination of this material present in the MCZ collection revealed that C. labyrinthica is likely to be a Solanderia as well (thanks are due to Adam Baldinger for letting us study the specimen) [details]
