Holotype ZMA POR. 607, geounit Eastern Caribbean [details]
From editor or global species database
Type designation Burton & Rao (1932) assigned an otherwise undescribed specimen in the BMNH collection of which the registration number was not mentioned as neotype of Agelas dispar because they assumed the Duchassaing & Michelotti material of the genus Agelas was 'irretrievably lost'. They were unaware of the fact that De Laubenfels in 1927 discovered the Duchassaing & Micheloti material in Turin and Amsterdam. Wiedenmayer (1977) designated ZMA Por. 607 as the type of the present species, as it was the only specimen with Duchassaing & Michelotti's original label. [details]
