Nomenclature The combination Spongia agaricina corlosia elongata Hyatt, 1877 was indicated as a junior primary homonym of Spongia elongata Lamarck, 1814 for which Spongia alpheusi nom. nov. was proposed. However, Hyatt's combination is an unavailable name according to ICZN 45.5 being a four name combination. Unavailable names do not enter into homonymy, so Van Soest & Hooper's (2020) nomen novum is not an available name. Van Soest (2024) proposed to assign Hyatt's specimen to Spongia (Spongia) tubulifera. [details]
