Taxonomy This name was attributed to Bergquist & Kelly (2004) by Muricy and Pearse. They stated that Bergquist & Kelly erected this new name for the species named Oscarella lobularis in Vacelet et al. (1976). However, even though Bergquist & Kelly stated that for this material a new species should be erected, they refrained from doing so (at least the new name does not occur in the published study). Since this material apparently has been adequately described to enable distinction from congeneric species of the area, the new name for it used by Muricy & Pearse is valid taking their names for authorship.
