Taxonomy Melophlus sp. had been shown to be grouping with the Geodiidae based on molecular markers (Cárdenas et al., 2011). Melophlus sarasinorum (type-species of Melophlus) has been shown to also group with the Geodiidae (Cardenas, unpublished results). For that reason Melophlus, formerly assigned to Ancorinidae,is now (tentatively) reassigned to Geodiidae. This decision means that the synapomorphy of the family, sterrasters/aspidasters is assumed to have become lost. [details]
