Status Contrary to the opinion of Cornelius (1995b: 161), Nutting (1896) is the valid first description of the species. It is not a nomen nudum as a clear diagnosis is given. The synonymy remains unresolved (see also Cornelius 1995b: 175).
It is likely a conspecific with Kirchenpaueria halecioides, less likely with Plumularia setacea.
It may be an aberrant form due to its occurrence on Nemertesia ramosa (comp. descriptions of epizoic Plumularia setacea).
The morphotype must be recollected and tested genetically (16S). [details]
