Taxonomy Although Bürger (1895: 543) included Nemertes gracilis Goodsir, 1845 in the synonymy of Eunemertes gracilis Johnston, 1837 [now Emplectonema gracile], the original description suggests that this nominal species would belong in Lineus longissimus (Gunnerus, 1770), as "[t]he whole body of a dark umber colour with the exception of a few narrow longitudinal white lines" (Goodsir 1845: 378).
