Taxonomic remark In 1998, Kouider El Ouahed Amine (1998) described a new species, Microcotyle kechemiri, from the sparid Pagrus pagrus, noting its close resemblance to M. erythrini found in Pagellus erythrinus. However, VĂllora-Montero et al. (2020) investigated microcotylid infections in both Pagellus erythrinus and P. pagrus and identified the specimens found as M. erythrini, as they are genetically and morphologically indistinguishable. Given that the previous description of M. kechemiri was based solely on morphological characteristics, it is likely that M. kechemiri is actually M. erythrini [details]
