About 60 species of gammaridean Amphipods were collected in the seagrasses (Iialodule and Cymo- docea principally) in the area of Nouméa (New Caledonia). 21 species are new and 3 are représentatives of new généra : Sebadexius neocaledoniensis n. g., n. sp. (Dexaminidae), Maxillipides laticarpus n. g., n. sp. (from the curious family MaxiUipiidae), Aborolobatea paracheliformis n. g., n. sp. (Oedicerotidae). One is considered as a subgenus of Examphithoe : E. (Melanesius) cooki n. sg., n. sp. (Amphithoidae). Other is listed as a subspe- cies : Paradusa bilobata pilipes n. ssp. (Amphithoidae). Amphithoe maxillissius, Cymadusa grossimana and Examphithoe gracilipes (Amphithoidae), Lembos aoraformis and Lembos spinimerus (Corophiidae), Paradexa- mine excavata (Dexaminidae), Tethygeneia cavitelson (Eusiridae), Cheirocratus spinibasus, Maera brevicau- data, Mallacoota schellenbergi and Parelasmopus mallacootaformis (Gammaridae), Urothoides pseudodernae (Haustoriidae), Leucothoe squalidens (Leucothoidae), Parambasia acuticaudata (Lysianassidae), Melphisana madagascarensis (Melphidippidae) and Hyale bidentata (Talitridae) are the other new species. Ecologically, gammaridean fauna of the leaves of the seagrasses are mainly constituted by few species. One principally, Paradexamine marlie lives in ail seagrasses. Others like Amphithoe ramondi, Cymadusa filosa and Lembos aequimanus prefer intertidal biotops and only these four species are relatively frequent in the seagrasses.
