Biology Type of larval development: planktotrophic, inferred from multispiral protoconch. [details]Diagnosis Shell up to 25 mm, broadly biconical, with moderately high spire. Protoconch slightly cyrtoconoid, of nearly three apparently smooth, convex whorls. Teleoconch of 6-7 whorls, with a quite regular spire of moderately convex whorls, and the last whorl somewhat distorted, compressed on the side of the aperture and increasingly inflated opposite to it. Sculpture of spiral cords, narrower than interspaces, and of narrow axial ribs which are stronger than the spirals and form with them a clathrate sculpture. Varices situated at about each 2/3 of a whorl over the four last whorls. Aperture subtriangular, the outer lip provided with 6-7 denticles of which the second (from adapical side) is larger; parietal edge with a broad, smooth appressed callus and a strong denticle adapically, continued into a narrower callus bordering the columella. Siphonal canal short and widely open, bordered with denticles in the columellar side. Periostracum hairy although not very dense. Colour white, the periostracum yellowish.
The Indo-Pacific Personopsis purpurata Beu, 1998 is distinguished by its still smaller size (16-18 mm), its finer sculpture, a much stronger denticle on the columella, and a purple blotch on the anterior part of the canal.
