Au total, 93 espèces d’éponges (98 espèces en comptant les écomorphes) ont été identifiées dans le Parc National de la Guadeloupe, parmi lesquelles 50 sont signalées pour la première fois. Suite au présent inventaire, le nombre d’espèces d’éponges identifiées en Guadeloupe a augmenté de 53 à 111 (116 en incluant les écomorphes ; tableau 2 et annexe). Les coefficients de similitude de Simpson (1960), calculés entre la liste des éponges de Guadeloupe et celles concernant différentes zones géographiques de la Caraïbe, ont montré que les valeurs les plus élevées se rapportaient à l’Amérique Centrale, à la zone Venezuela-Colombie et aux îles de l’Arc Antillais. Comme on pouvait s’y attendre, à cause de la présence d’eaux de plus en plus froides, les valeurs du coefficient décroissent graduellement depuis le golfe du Mexique vers les Bermudes et vers la côte est tempérée des États-Unis (de la Géorgie au sud de la Virginie). La valeur élevée du coefficient de similitude de Simpson (0,83) observée entre la Guadeloupe et l’Amérique Centrale suggère que, pour les éponges, il n’existe pas de différentiation entre une aire géographique caribéenne et une aire antillaise comme proposée par Briggs (1974).
