This paper presents the first stage of the taxonomic study of the Holocene ostracodes from Sepetiba Bay, with a description of Whatleyella sanguinettiae gen. et sp. nov.. Three previously described species, Callistocythere litoralensis (Rossi de Garcia, 1966), Tanella gracilis Kingma, 1948 and Keijella diction (Bold, 1966) are recorded, and Callistocythere omata (Hartmann, 1956) is re-described with SEM illustrations. The geographical distribution of these species seems to indicate a possible extention southwards of the limit of the Transitional Assemblage which occurs between the Eastern and Southern shelves of Brazil, up to Lat. 23° S.
