Description Coralla are encrusting and leafy, up to 30 cm across. Calices are relatively large, reaching 3 - 5 mm diameter, and separated by up to 6 mm or more. The principal septa are thickened and markedly exsert. This species prefers clear water and steep reef slopes with good water exchange, though it is not found in turbulent water. Its preferred depth range is 5 to 15 m deep. (Sheppard, 1998 <308>)

Colonies are thin plates or encrusting with a flat surface. Corallites are large for Psammocora, regularly distributed, and have very distinctive exsert petaloid primary septo-costae. Colour: pale or dark brown or green, frequently mottled. Abundance: rare. (Veron, 1986 <57>) [details]
