Etymology The specific epithet ankylochaeta is composed by the Greek words ankylo, meaning 'stiff', 'unmovable', or 'adhesion', and by extension 'bent', 'hooked' or 'curved', and chaeta, meaning 'spine' or 'bristle', and refers to the curved hooked simple chaetae present in the middle region of the body of the worm, resulting from the fusion of the blades with the shaft of the composed chaetae: "Dans la région moyenne du corps, il s'y joint 2 grosses soies simples en croc recourbé" (Fauvel, 1921: 5).
