[details]Remark In Subgenus (Lessonothuria) Deichmann, 1958. Syntypes Zoologisches Museum für Hamburg, Hamburg (Germany) E.2573 (2 specimens). Type locality: Bowen, Queensland, Australia (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
Treated as a synonym of H. pardalis Selenka, 1867 in Lampert (1896). According to Clark & Rowe (1971), Heding (1934) maintains that there is enough evidence to keep the two separate, but due to differing interpretations in the past, however, there must be some overlapping of the records for insignis and pardalis.
