Description Colour in life very variable but not spotted like M. Longipeda (Sloan et al., 1979). Description: similar to M. longipeda (Richmond, 1998). Disc scales with thorny stumps. Radial shields with shorter stumps. Aboral arm plates with rounded granules, distal edge convex, laterodistal corners bent back. Oral arm plates longer than broad. Twelve thorny arm spines, upper ones longest, lowest comb-like.
Also distributed in SE Arabia, Maldive area, East Indies, north Australia, South Pacific Is. and Hawaiian Is. (Clark & Rowe, 1971); Lakshadweep (India) in Sastry (1991); Australia (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
General distribution: East coast of Africa to Hawaiian Islands (Sastry, 1991); tropical, Indo-Pacific Ocean, depth range 0-128 m. (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
Ecology: benthic, inshore, continental shelf (Rowe & Gates, 1995). [details]
