According to Rowe & Gates (1995), Astropecten carcharicus Döderlein, 1917, Astropecten hemprichi Döderlein, 1917 (Red Sea) and Astropecten carcharicus formosanus Döderlein, 1917 (south coast of Formosa) are possible synonyms but more material is needed for thorough comparisons. [details]
