Description Arm length to 20 mm, disc diameter to 6 mm. Similar to Ophiochaeta hirsuta, but genus instantly recognisable by fan-shaped teeth with glassy, serrated edge. Colour cream with dusky grey markings and banded arms. Habitat: among algae, sponges, coral etc.
General distribution: tropical, west-central Pacific Ocean, depth range 0-72 m. (Rowe & Gates, 1995); WIO, Red Sea to W Pacific (Richmond, 1998).
Also distributed in East Indies, north Australia, Philippine and South Pacific Is. (Clark & Rowe, 1971); Australia (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
Ecology: benthic, inshore, continental shelf (Rowe & Gates, 1995). [details]

Spelling Ophioconis in Loisette & Marshall (1983).Holotype in Zoologisches Museum, Göttingen (Germany). Type locality: Amboina, Indonesia (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
Ophioconis is actually not a spelling variation, but the correct spelling. [details]
