Neste trabalho são descritas a composição taxonômica, a riqueza específica, a abundância, a biomassa, e a distribuição geográfica e batimétrica das esponjas marinhas (Filo Porifera) coletadas pelo Programa REVIZEE SCORE Central, campanhas de bentos II, V e VI. Foram estudados 3800 espécimes de Porifera, dos quais 99,4% eram da Classe Demospongiae, 0,37% da Classe Calcarea e 0,26% da Classe Hexactinellida. Os espécimes foram classificados em 295 morfotipos pertencentes a 56 famílias de Porifera. Até o momento, 172 morfotipos já foram identificados em nível de gênero ou espécie. As famílias mais ricas em espécies foram Chalinidae (22 morfotipos), Ancorinidae (18), Niphatidae (15) e Petrosiidae (14). As famílias mais abundantes em número de indivíduos foram Halichondriidae, Aplysinidae, Niphatidae e Spongiidae. A biomassa total de Porifera foi de 110,5 Kg apenas nas campanhas Central V e VI, 99,9% dos quais da Classe Demospongiae. A família Aplysinidae teve a maior biomassa, seguida por Ancorinidae, Niphatidae, Agelasidae e Halichondriidae. Ocorreram esponjas em 89 das 134 estações de coleta por dragagem. Demospongiae esteve representada em 88 estações, enquanto Calcarea e Hexatinellida ocorreram em apenas sete e quatro estações, respectivamente. As famílias de Porifera mais freqüentes foram Aplysinidae, Halichondriidae, Ancorinidae, Tetillidae, Axinellidae, e Agelasidae. A maioria das famílias de Demospongiae ocorreu nas áreas mais rasas, até 250 m. A Classe Calcarea se restringiu à faixa de 50-100 m de profundidade, e a Classe Hexactinellida ocorreu apenas nas maiores profundidades, entre 250 e 1700 m. A fauna de Porifera coletada pelo Programa REVIZEE SCORE Central apresenta muitas novas ocorrências para o Brasil e prováveis espécies novas, demonstrando a importância do Programa REVIZEE para o levantamento da fauna marinha brasileira. A maioria das espécies e dos gêneros identificados produz substâncias bioativas de interesse farmacológico e alto potencial econômico.
