The type species of Japanithyris, J. mariae (A. Adams) proves to be identical to Campages basilanica Dall, and it comes from the same area in Japan as Dall's type C. basilanica. The genus thus becomes an objective synonym of the older Campages. Japanithyris septata (Philippi) has different internal characters from those of Japanithyris and is referable to the genus Fallax.
