Sagitta lucida is a large chaetognath (max. length = 36mm), characterized by a transparent and flaccid body, a collarette restricted to the neck region, long anterior fins, narrow and rayless on their anterior two-thirds, and ovoid seminal vesicles. Sagitta adenensis , another large species (length = 32 mn), with also a flaccid body, has a collarette, anterior teeth nearly as numerous as posterior ones, lateral fins with rays only on the outer edge. The two specimens have been caught in a trawl from a depth of 400 m, near Djibouti.
