Nomenclature Deshayes (1843:260) interpreted the common European species currently known as Turritella communis Risso, 1826 under the Linnaean name ungulina, whilst referring to the western African species as fuscata of Lamarck.
Reeve (1849, pl. 7, sp. 35) as such added Deshayes' interpretation to the synonymy of Turritella cornea Lamarck, 1822 which in his opinion was the correct name for the species currently referred to as communis Risso, 1826. [details]
